Canela Bistro In Sonoita Arizona
Arizona's Centennial Celebration
#7 of 100 Things To See & Do In Arizona
Nestled in the grasslands and oak hills of Southeast Arizona in one of the small towns that dot the landscape is Canela Bistro. Located within the Mountain Empire Region and Southeaster Arizona Wine Country in the quaint town of Sonoita, Arizona, it has quickly become a destination restaurant for locals and tourist alike.
Canela Bistro’s sun-drenched brick facade quickly gives way to the comfort and beauty found within. “The restaurant's ambiance just whispers of the Southwest...it has a comfortable, laid-back feel ” (Arizona Daily Star) Native plants, richly colored textiles, pottery and artwork are tastefully displayed throughout the restaurant. In addition to the cozy main dining room and the lush garden patio, a private dining room may be available upon request.
But the real story is in the food that is served. Inspired by food archaeologist, Gary Nabhan, the owner of Canel Bistro, John Hall, left Seattle and returned to the place he grew up and opened Canela Bistro. Hall and his partner, Joy Vargo, committed themselves to using locally sourced ingredients when they opened in 2005. Vargo said Nabhan taught the couple how to forage for prickly-pear fruit, mesquite beans and yucca flour.
Take the scenic drive to Sonoita and enjoy Southwestern cuisine created from locally produced food and wine that is guaranteed to please even the most discriminating taste buds. Canela Bistro’s Menus are also Food-Allergy, Vegetarian, Vegan and Kid Friendly. Whether you’re just treating yourself to a great meal or celebrating a special occasion, the owners and staff at Canela Bistro know exactly how to make your experience a memorable one.
